Methods to Disable BitLocker in Windows 10

Windows 10 offers a variety of ways to disable BitLocker, including Settings, the Control Panel, the Windows search bar, PowerShell, and the Command Prompt. Below are the stepwise processes you can take for each of these methods.

1.    Disable BitLocker Via Windows Search

Using Windows search, you can use File Explorer, Start menu, or the Settings menu to find the items you are looking for. You can also run web searches without opening a browser and access the files or apps you use most frequently.

·         You can disable BitLocker by searching for 'Manage BitLocker' in the Windows search box.

·         Now, you can choose it from the results in the search box. Using the administrator account on your PC, navigate to the Windows search box, type 'Manage BitLocker,' then click on it.

·         Next, select the 'Turn off BitLocker' option.

2.    Disable BitLocker Via Settings Menu

Using the Windows Settings menu, you can change your PC according to your needs. Here's how you can disable BitLocker from the Windows Settings menu.

·         To begin, go to Settings and select 'Start.'

·         From there, select 'System.' From the 'About' section, select the 'Related Settings' section, and then click 'BitLocker Settings.'

·         Next, select the 'Turn off BitLocker' option.

·         If prompted, select the 'Turn off BitLocker' again. Encryption will occur on your hard drive, then you will be prompted to enter your password before BitLocker is disabled.

3.    Disable BitLocker Via Control Panel

You can also turn off BitLocker from the Control Panel of Windows 10. There are a lot of settings in the Control Panel that affect how Windows looks and works.

·         First, open the Control Panel of your Windows 10.

·         Choose 'System and Security.' Click on 'BitLocker Drive Encryption.'

·         Next, select 'Manage BitLocker.'

·         Then, click on the 'Turn off BitLocker' link.

·         The following message will show up: Your drive will be decrypted. This may take some time, but you can continue using your computer while it decrypts. Now, select the 'Turn off BitLocker' option to confirm the action.

4.    Disable BitLocker PowerShell and Command Prompt

You can also turn off BitLocker with PowerShell or Command Prompt if you can't access BitLocker's GUI interface or can only access the command line tools. For both tools, be sure to run them as Administrator.

·         PowerShell commands are below, but you need to replace X with the drive letter of the encrypted drive. The following command is 'Disable-Bitlocker –MountPoint "X:." '

·         The volume status should be 'FullyDecrypted,' and the 'Protection Status' should be turned to 'Off.'

·         When you first set up BitLocker, you saved the recovery key either to your Microsoft account or to a file. This will be necessary when you use the command prompt. Once you've got that, you'll need to type the following command, replacing X with the letter of the drive on your PC: manage-bde -unlock X: -RecoveryPassword Recovery-Key

·        This unlocks the drive but doesn't turn off BitLocker fully. If you want to completely disable BitLocker cmd, use this command: ‘manage-bde -off X:

You can easily disable BitLocker if you have any trouble with it by using any of the above solutions. BitLocker is a very useful feature because it prevents files from unauthorized access.
