  3. Enter the control panel and tap OK.
  4. From the control panel, set the view by large icons.
  5. Find and choose the sync center option.
  6. Tap on to manage offline file link on the left.
  7. Click to disable offline files button.
  8. In the restart prompt, tap to yes to restart Windows.

After restarting Windows, the sync center will be completely turned off, and the offline file synchronization feature will be disabled. The mobsync.exe process will no longer run in the background. 

To turn the feature back on, check out the same steps but tap to enable files button and reboot the system.

How to Disable Sync Center with Group Policy Editor?

  1. Start by opening the start menu.
  2. Search for edit group policy and open Group Policy Editor.
  3. In GP editor, proceed to computer configuration > administrative templates > network > offline > files folder.

  5. Select the disabled option.
  6. Tap to apply button and then OK to save changes.
  7. Lastly, you need to close Group Policy Editor and restart Windows.

Restarting will apply a system-wide policy and disable the sync center in Windows 10. Here, the policy is applied to computers and not specific users like the control panel method.

To turn sync back on through GPO, check out the steps mentioned below but choose not to configure or enable the option.

Methods to Stop Sync Center from Running at Startup

If you don’t use it or don’t want the sync center process running during startup, then you can stop it. To do that, users need to disable the offline files feature. In Windows 10, the easiest way is to hit the Windows key on the keyboard and type: offline files, choose the result from the top, or click to enter. In the previous version of Windows then, you need to start by opening the control panel > network and internet > offline files.

After this, tap to disable offline files button under the general tab and tap OK. You need to restart to complete the process to disable offline files, so users won’t want to do it until you have downtime.

Remember that users should disable the feature if they don’t use it. For example, I was using it with my Windows home server, but since the server is disconnected then decided it from start-up. If you are not sure whether users run the process or not, but if working is disabled, then proceed back in and turn offline files back on.

If you have gone through “remember my credentials,” users connect to a NAS storage device, then it will show offline. To resolve the issue of disabling sync files in Windows 10:

  1. Start by typing credential manager and then tap on it. It will help you to tap on Windows credentials under the managing the credential tab.
  2. Now, you need to choose credentials for your host and select remove the option to delete the data.
